Students from Kharkov volunteered to help an orphanage in Bogodukhov. For two weeks these volunteers presented lessons on social topics, taught different kinds of beading crafts, and staged mini-plays for the children. Each day a variety of activities were provided for the orphans, including morning exercises, lessons, crafts and sporting events.

The parable was about faithfulness and friendship Using a drama, students told the children about general human values. The volunteers prefer this method, it makes communicating easier and more joyful.

For Yekaterina Mikhailichenko, for this young woman, it will be her last year living at the orphanage before moving on. She hit it off with the student volunteers. To her, they were more like friends than tutors.

Katerina Mikhailichenko: "Teaching is a profession; the teacher must be referred to respectfully, like a senior citizen. Of course it is possible to talk with him, but in private, so that no one else can hear. However, the volunteers may be treated equally, in an open manner."

The volunteers brought all the necessary things for sewing, drawing, and making paper figures. The children really liked to paint and draw with colored chalk.

Oleg Abornev has been volunteering his time for seven years now. In that period of time he has visited many orphanages in Kharkov and the surrounding region. The team of volunteers brought gifts and many basic necessities for the orphanage. They came just following their hearts. They are going to visit the orphanage again.

Oleg Abornev, organizer of the volunteer camp: ""The volunteers and children became good friends. The volunteers were worried as they weren't sure if they would be able to communicate effectively. They found that they had nothing to worry about as the children warmly welcomed them."

The next visit to the orphanage will be in September. They have promised that no volunteer will leave the orphanage without a gift. Drawings and animals made of beads were created by the children especially for the volunteers.
